Here is how to setup an automated task that runs DISM+SFC once a month:

  1. Start by right-clicking on the desktop and creating a new "text document". When that blank document opens up, please type "dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth". Press your "Enter" key twice, then type "sfc /scannow". Press your "Enter" key once and type "pause" -v A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)
  2. Now you need to save the document. Click "File" > "Save-As" > Navigate to the "Documents" folder and name the file whatever you like. Make sure that the file name ends in ".bat", otherwise it won't be saved as a batch file. Click the "Save" button when you are done with the name A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)
  3. This is what you should see, when you right-click that new file you saved and check the Properties. You can see it is a "Windows Batch File (.bat)" -v A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)

  7. Go ahead and enter a name plus a description. You can copy what I have typed, or make your own. Once that is filled out, please checkmark the box "Run with highest privileges" -v A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)

  9. We are going to change a few things. First, change the radio button under "Settings" on the left to "Monthly". Next, change the "Start" to the next day and whatever time you want this task to start. Best to run the task when you know the computer will be on. After that, click the "Months" drop down and checkmark the box "Select all months" -v A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)
  10. Next let's click the "Days" drop down box and choose a day that works for you. Personally, I choose the "Last" box, as that has the task happen on the last day of every month, no matter how many days are in that month -v A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)
  11. The last setting to change here is to checkmark the box that says "Stop task if it runs longer than:". Right after you checkmark that, please click the little drop down and choose "1 hour", down from the default of "3 days". Once everything is set, click the "OK" button at the bottom of the window -v A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)
  12. This is what that trigger will look like -v A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)
  13. Now we head to the "Actions" tab and click the "New..." button. There will be nothing in the "Program/script:" box, which is normal. Click the "Browse...: button and find the .bat file we created earlier. Once you find it, dobule-click on it. That will place it into the box, like you see here. Click the "OK" button at the bottom -v A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)
  14. This is what the "Action" tab should look like -v A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)
  15. This is what the "Conditions" tab will look like. Nothing needs to be changed here -v A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)
  16. Almost done! Moving to the "Settings" tab, please checkmark the "Run task as soon as possible after a schedule start is missed". Then make sure "Stop the task if it runs longer than:" box and change the little drop down to "1 hour". Double-check all of your settings match what is shown in this screenshot. If they do, great! You may not click on the "OK" button down at the bottom. -v A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)
  17. The window will disappear, and the "Task Scheduler" window might freeze for a moment as the task is created. Please maximize the "Task Schedular" window and click the "Task Scheduler Library" option was over near the upper left corner of the window (it's highlighted in blue in this screenshot). You should then see your new task you created, hightlighted in grey. You did it! -v A picure of my PC with the side panel off.(PLACEHOLDER)
Your new task has been created successfully. Now, once a month you will see a black "Command Prompt" box show up, and both commands will run one-after-the-other. At the end of both tasks, everything in the box will pause, so that you can look and see if any "integrity violations" were found. If you want to see what this looks like, you can go to your "Documents" folder, right-click the .bat file you created earlier, and choose "Run as administrator".
